Mideast oil accounts for 1/5 of our crude oil imports.

We waste that much.
By eliminating waste we eliminate the need for Mideast oil.

Multiply the impact of each item by the percentage of 300 million Americans doing it and huge benefits accrue.

Try riding a bicycle.
Try a solar water heater.
Try passive solar energy.
Try solar energy systems.
Try driving the speed limit.
Try an energy efficient car.
Try using synthetic motor oil.
Try turning the thermostat down.
Try washing clothes in cold water.
Try riding in a carpool or vanpool.
Try energy saving Energy Star bulbs.
Try tax benefits of owning a vanpool.
Try staying home: everybody - all day.
Try buying Energy Star qualified items.
Try combining multiple errands into 1 trip.
Try accelerating smoothly - save 22% on gas.
Try turning the lights out in empty rooms. Duh!
Try shopping locally from home with credit card.
Try riding in to work with a neighbor once a week.
Try riding in to work with a neighbor twice a week.
Try downsizing from 8 to 6 cylinders in next new car.
Try waiting until 17 before letting children drive a car.
Try turning heat and AC off in empty houses and buildings.
Try shopping the internet with credit card rather than locally.
Try power cords with timer switches on things like a refrigerator.
Try driving like there is an egg between your foot and the accelerator.
Try going to the mall to shop with a friend or two or three all in one car.
Try a protest: stay home from something you were going to just to save gas.

If you are doing fewer than 10, you need to have a hard look at yourself.

Let me put this another way.
We import 1/8 of the crude oil we use from Mideast.
This causes lots of problems like hatred, terrorism, entanglements and war.
War has cost 3000 lives on 911 and over 4000 US troops in Iraq.
To eliminate all that crap do your part.
Find ways to go 8 days with 7 days supply of gas.
Say bye-bye to our need for Mideast oil!
